America's Top Prospects Showcase Their Skills
The Sierra Baseball League features the top prospects in the country as recommended by their coaches nationwide. Each summer future Major League Stars roam the diamonds throughout California as professional baseball scouts try to find the next Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr. or Derek Jeter.
Our mission is to provide a minor league style baseball experience in each community, and to do so we need the top players from throughout the United States. Though this year’s franchises are playing an independent schedule, their rosters reflect the type of talent we are talking about, some who are draft eligible and some who are not eligible for the Major League Summer Amateur Draft.
The 2008 rosters include some of the top players in the country. Led by the Pac 10, Southeastern Conference, Big 12 and beyond, the talent throughout the SBL is second to none. Led by players like Texas Longhorn Justin Street, a former high school All American and brother of Oakland A’s closer Houston Street; Chris Richburg, Texas Tech’s star left fielder and former MVP of the Texas Collegiate League; Oregon’s early signee, standout pitcher Ben Whitmore; Northern Iowa’s Chris Lopez, who hit 16 home runs in junior college last season, a school record; Tennessee’s versatile Tanner Moore, a star at both corners on the infield; and UC Irvine star Eric Deragisch, a player who continues to dazzle scouts with his athleticism.
So check throughout the year to see the players who star in the league, or who end of leaving to sign with their Major League teams. In 2009, player signings will be posted each week as their contracts come in to the League each Fall and Spring.
